THE ROOP YOUTH MISSION OFFERING
at Springforth

Background: On October 25th, 1999 Joel (17) and Daniel (15) Roop were tragically killed in a car accident less than 1 km from Atlantic Baptist University where the High School track for Springforth is held annually. Joel and Daniel were active in the youth ministry of Lewisville Baptist Church in Moncton and in the youth group at L’Eglise Baptiste Francaise de Moncton, a youth group they helped to start. They were involved in many youth mission projects across Canada.

Six months before they died, students who attended Springforth contributed over $1000 to assist in sending their family to France to engage in a short term mission project with Canadian Baptist Volunteers.

In their memory, and to honour the cause of mission which was their passion, an offering will be taken at High School Springforth to further the cause of Christ by providing support for a High School student or recent grad who will serve in an overseas summer or short term mission project.

Who is eligible? Any active member of a Baptist youth group in Atlantic Canada.

How many recipients will there be each year? Normally one.

What is expected of the recipient? The person who is chosen to be the recipient of the offering will be expected to share in 3-4 minutes the nature of their summer ministry at Springforth and then, after coming home, write a brief report for posting on the Springforth web site (www.baptist-atlantic.ca/youth).

Who decides who is the recipient for the offering? A small committee chaired by the Convention’s Director of Youth Ministry.

Who will receive priority? Anyone is welcome to apply, but those who are planning to serve with Canadian Baptist Volunteers will receive first consideration.

How can I apply? Write a one-page letter describing the project you will be involved in and why you want to take part in this project and send it to Rev. Bruce Fawcett, Director of Youth Ministries, Box 6004 Moncton NB E1C 9L7.

What is the deadline to apply? Letters of application must be postmarked by April 10th.

Who do I contact if I have questions? Bruce Fawcett at bfawcett@abu.nb.ca
